MY 2022 BACKPACKING GEAR LIST (and a few of my favorite gear picks!)

When I started with the idea of backpacking back in 2018, I quickly came to realize that it was going to take some time and money to figure what I needed to actually be able to do a multi-night backpacking trip comfortably. Since then, I have been refining and replacing my gear as I discover what works well for me....and what doesn't!

What Made the Gear List this Summer?

Here is the rundown of items I brought along this summer...........as well as a few things I left off the list!

  • Z-Pack Triplex Flex Tent

  • Superior Wilderness Designs Long Haul 50L Backpack

  • Enlightened Equipment Enigma Quilt, 850 Down, 10C

  • Thermarest NeoAir Lite Sleeping Pad

  • Sea to Summit Air Pillow, Large

  • 2-mil plastic footprint (for tent)

  • Thermarest NeoAir Pump Sack (Gear Pick #1)

  • MSR PocketRocket Deluxe Stove Kit

  • Collapsible silicon cup

  • Titanium spork

  • Lighter

  • Pocket Knife

  • Sea to Summit Multipurpose Wash

  • Sea to Summit Ultra SIL Folding Bucket (Gear Pick #2)

  • Platypus Flexible Wine Pouch (Gear Pick #3-Luxury Item!)

  • Platypus 4L Water Gravity Filtration System

  • Smart Water Bottle, 1L

  • Gatorade Bottle, 20oz.

  • 4-8 oz isobutane fuel

  • Garmin InReach Explorer

  • 20,000 mA charging Brick

  • Phone

  • Headlamp

  • Firestarter/Water Set (matches, flint, cubes, purification tablets)

  • Emergency Whistle/Compass

  • Duct Tape

  • First Aid Kit

  • Toothbrush/Toothpaste Kit

  • Bandana

  • Ursack Food Sack

  • Ziploc Ditty Sack

  • Trowel, Toilet Paper, Hand Sanitizer

  • Sports bra, underwear, socks, shorts (one of each)

  • Buff

  • Teva sandals

  • Hiking Poles

  • 25 ft paracord with carabiner ring

  • Helinox camp chair (Gear Pick #4)

My base weight before food, fuel, water and wine was around 17 lbs. Fully loaded, my pack was between 25-30 lbs all in depending on if I was hiking alone or with Ryan.

What I Wore Out on the Trail

These are the items I wore each day, every day. SmartWool is amazing for not holding odors and so great to wear on multi-day hiking trips, but I am not going to lie, we all start to stink after about 4 days......

  • Hat

  • Sunglasses

  • SmartWool Tank Top

  • Senchi Designs Polartec Alpha Fleece (Gear Pick #5- new for 2022)

  • Patagonia Happy Hike Pants

  • SmartWool socks, sportsbra and underwear

  • Salomon X Ultra Hiking Shoes

A Few Things I Left at Home....

  • The Life Straw: While it weights hardly anything, the Life Straw usually just sits at the bottom of my pack. I opted to leave it home this summer. And since I have water purification tablets, these serve as a backup to my water filtration system.

  • Rain Pants: I didn't need these in Colorado, but I SHOULD have taken these with me to Wyoming! Lesson learned!

Stay tuned for my 2002 summer backpacking trip Vlogs coming soon!
